The cave was formed by a volcanic eruption that shaped the island of Lanzarote. It is an underground cave with a large lake and several smaller lakes. The cave has several tunnels that lead to different rooms and galleries. The rooms are illuminated with beautiful lighting and are decorated with natural elements such as stalactites and stalagmites.

The cultural center of Jameos del Agua offers a range of activities and events. There is an auditorium where concerts, plays, and other performances are held. There is also a restaurant where you can enjoy local dishes and wines while enjoying the beautiful view of the cave.

The most unique place in Jameos Del Agua is the pool. The pool is one of the most unique pools in the world. You are not allowed to swim in it, but it is definitely worth taking a look. The water is filled with water from the Atlantic Ocean and is home to a unique species of white lobsters that only live in this cave. In the pool, the lobster are not visible. But in the river in the middle of the cave the lobsters give light through the reflection of the sunlight, making them clearly visible for the eye.

Jameos del Agua was definitely worth a visit, it was one of the most impressive sights on the island. Especially because of the different sights and experiences that cater to everyone, this is definitely a place I recommend visiting.

Cueva De Los Verdes

Cueva de los Verdes is one of the most impressive cave systems in the world and is located in Lanzarote. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions on the island and attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world every year.

The caves were formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago. It is one of the few cave systems in the world where visitors can descend deep into the earth and view the unique formations and structures of the caves up close.

You can join a tour where you are guided by an experienced guide who will lead you through the cave system and provide information about the history and geology of the caves. The guide will explain how the caves were formed and how the local population hid in the caves during invasions and wars. Without a tour, it is not allowed to enter the caves.

A visit to Cueva de los Verdes is definitely an unforgettable experience and a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Lanzarote. The caves offer a fascinating view of the geology and history of the island. Especially if you want to stand in the middle of a volcano, this is definitely an activity not to be missed, because you can't do this on many places on earth. 

Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya National Park on the island of Lanzarote is a breathtaking natural area with a volcanic origin. The park was founded in 1974 and has since grown into a popular tourist destination.

The highlight of the park is the Montañas del Fuego (Fire Mountains), where volcanic activity is still visible. Here you can feel the heat of the volcanoes and see how magma rises from the earth. It is a unique experience that you cannot experience anywhere else in the world. The park also has a visitor center where you can learn more about the history and geology of the area.

Upon entering the park, there are several demonstrations that show the volcanic activity. I found these very spectacular. You can feel the heat of the volcano, the stones and you can even see water spraying up from the ground due to the pressure. There is also a hole that goes meters deep where volcanic heat comes out, which they use as a barbecue for the restaurant.

In the park, there are various excursions possible. The area is protected and they are very strict about where you can and cannot go. In places that are very protected, you can only go with an organized bus and not with your own car. The bus is a tour where they also tell the history of this place with fun facts and trivia.

To see the volcanic history of Lanzarote, this is definitely an excursion to recommend. These are the kinds of places that often appear on the internet but do not feel completely real, making it very unique to stand there and see it with your own eyes. And when you are there, you may wonder if Mars is real, because it looks like you are on Mars. A fun fact is that some space movies have also been filmed here in the nature reserve.

Bodega La Geria

Bodega la Geria is one of the most remarkable wineries on the island, offering a fascinating insight into winemaking on this volcanic island. Located in the heart of the protected natural area of ​​La Geria, this winery is not only a major producer of Lanzarote's famous Malvasía wines, but also a place where visitors can enjoy the special landscape of the region.

The vineyards of Bodega la Geria are unique because of their cultivation method. This is a traditional technique that has been used on the island for centuries, in which the vines are planted in pits that have been excavated in the ash of old volcanoes. The pits are filled with volcanic rock, which protects the roots of the grapevines from the intense sun and the hard winds that are so characteristic of Lanzarote. This is very unique to see.

Bodega la Geria has several tours for tourists through the vineyards and the winery. During these tours, you will learn more about the history of winemaking on Lanzarote and the unique cultivation methods used in the vineyards of Bodega la Geria. In addition, you also have the opportunity to taste and buy various wines from the winery.

The most famous wine is the Malvasía wine of the house. This wine is made from the Malvasía grape, which has been cultivated on Lanzarote for centuries. The wine has a slightly sweet taste and is a perfect wine to drink as an aperitif or with a light dessert.

In addition to the Malvasía wine, Bodega la Geria also produces other wines, including red and white wines and rosé. All wines from the winery are produced using traditional techniques and the grapes are handpicked to ensure the highest quality.

Teguise Market

Every Sunday morning, the old city of Teguise is transformed into a colorful market where visitors can enjoy local crafts, fresh products, and souvenirs. The market starts at 9:00 am and lasts until 2:00 pm. The market is very busy during the holiday season, and during our visit, it was also crowded, so make sure you arrive early. Also, due to the heat in the afternoon, it's nice if you have seen most of the market before the peak temperature of the day. I, myself, was done with the market after an hour and a half, mainly because of the crowds.

Teguise market is not only a place to shop. It is also a great place to experience the local culture. Visitors can enjoy traditional music and dance, and taste delicious local dishes. There are several restaurants where you can try the specialties of Lanzarote.

The market can be visited by bus or car. The bus is very cheap, so it's not recommended to use a taxi because it will cost you much more. The only disadvantage of the bus is that it quickly becomes full due to the crowds, and if the bus is full, it will drive on and not stop. We ended up waiting for the bus for an hour and a half. In this case, a taxi is very convenient because you will arrive on time. If you have rented a car, there are several parking lots just outside Teguise, and it only costs a few euros to park.

A visit to Teguise market is a great way to experience part of the Canarian culture and enjoy the unique atmosphere of Lanzarote.

Dolphin Boat Tour

A dolphin boat tour is offered by various tour operators. The tour usually starts with a boat trip along the coast of Lanzarote in search of dolphins. Due to the subtropical climate, the animals can be found in the waters all year round. They are wild animals, and even though the boats pass by the breeding grounds, it may be that you don't always see what you expected. During our own excursion, we saw many schools of dolphins. We saw different types of dolphins swimming around the boat and even following the boat, which was amazing to see. We did not see any other mammals, but it is possible to encounter whales or orcas if you are lucky. There are strict rules for humans regarding the mammals. You are not allowed to get too close and disturb the animals. This way, the natural environment of the animals cannot be disrupted and/or damaged.

The boat tour was definitely a unique experience, both because of the dolphins we saw and the beautiful nature we got to see. It is definitely worth it if you enjoy such boat trips.

It depends on the boat tour whether you also get the opportunity to swim in the water and snorkel.
