Travel Guide Tenerife

If you love sun and sea, Tenerife is the perfect place to go. This Canary Island is specially designed for tourists and therefore the perfect place to enjoy your holiday. From all the activities that can be done in the lovely weather, to the nightlife. There is something for everyone to experience, no matter what you like. The weather in Tenerife is also enjoyable throughout the year, due to the subtropical climate. This means that even in the winter months, it is as warm on average as the summer days in the Netherlands. Tenerife is therefore recommended to visit all year round.

Things to do in Tenerife

Dolphin and Whale Watching Boat Trip

Tenerife offers various boat trips where the boats travel along specific routes designed for spotting dolphins and whales. Most boats also have underwater viewing options, allowing you to spot all kinds of wild animals. Due to the subtropical climate, these animals can be found in the waters around Tenerife all year round. Although the boats pass by the breeding grounds, keep in mind that they are still wild animals and it is possible that you may not always see what you expected. During our own excursion, we saw many schools of dolphins, both underwater and above water. We also saw several species of dolphins swimming around and even behind the boat, which was amazing to see. Unfortunately, we did not see any whales, but many people have been lucky enough to see orcas or other whale species.

Dolphins and whales are protected species in Tenerife and strict regulations have been put in place to ensure that everyone follows them. This allows people to enjoy the animals without disturbing or stressing them, allowing them to continue living in the wild. If you plan to rent your own boat or kayak, make sure to research the regulations before going into the water, as there are strict controls to ensure the safety and well-being of these animals.

Walk around Costa Adeje

The south/western part of Tenerife has been specially designed as a place for tourists where you can find everything you need. You can walk along the entire south/west coast on the boulevard and along the way, you’ll find hotels, restaurants, souvenir shops, beaches, shopping centers, bars, clubs, and more. Because it is designed for tourists, the shops are also open in the evening and there is plenty to do at night. Our hotel was just a 5-minute walk from a mini-golf course that was open until 11 pm. So whether you like to party at night or prefer activities, you will certainly find everything here. You definitely won't get bored at night.

Siam Mall

The largest shopping center in Tenerife is Siam Mall, located in the south of Tenerife. It is a modern and stylish place with a variety of shops, restaurants, and entertainment options for both tourists and local residents.

Siam Mall has many well-known brands such as Zara, Pull & Bear, and Mango. There are also some unique boutiques and souvenir shops that sell local products. The variety of shops makes the shopping center suitable for everyone, from young to old, for clothing and souvenirs.

In addition to shopping, Siam Mall also offers entertainment options such as a cinema and a bowling alley. There is also a children's play area where you can leave your children to enjoy various fun activities while you shop undisturbed.

There are also several restaurants and cafes where visitors can enjoy local dishes and international cuisine.

All hotels have bus stops that go directly to Siam Mall. The only annoying thing is that the buses back don't leave until very late. We only had 3 hours to shop because we had to catch our flight. This meant we had to walk back to our hotel, which took an hour. So it is advisable to check the bus times carefully.

Siam Mall is definitely worth a visit when you go to Tenerife.

Siam Park

Siam Park is one of the largest water parks in Europe. The park offers a variety of water attractions for all ages. The park is built with a Thai theme and has a beautiful setting with lots of greenery and palm trees.

The park has something for everyone. For the true daredevils, the most popular attraction in Siam Park is the Tower of Power. This is a 28-meter high slide that takes you through a dark tunnel and ends with a 90-degree drop into an aquarium filled with sharks and rays. For those looking for something less intense, the park also has the Mai Thai River, a relaxing attraction that takes you on a peaceful float through the park. Each attraction has a level of excitement displayed, so you know in advance whether you want to try it or not. What I also found very unique in the park is that they have created a sea where you can relax and swim if you want to take a break.

In addition to the water attractions, Siam Park also has several restaurants and shops that offer Thai cuisine and souvenirs. The park also offers various shows and events throughout the day, including traditional Thai dances and music.

It is important to know that you are expected to leave your belongings in a locker or at one of the sun loungers at the "sea" and walk through the park in your swimwear. Items cannot be taken on the attractions and cannot be left behind at the entrance or exit of the attractions as these are located in different places. There are different locker spots and you can rent a locker at the lockers themselves. There is often a long queue, so be on time or you may end up waiting. You can return to your locker as often as you like to apply sunscreen, grab your towel, or get money if you want to eat.

For a great day full of adventure and fun in the sun, Siam Park is a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Tenerife.
